Scheduled to take place in Pisa on the three days, Wednesday, May 17 to Friday, May 19, for the 2nd Symposium on Research-Based Learning, organized by EELISA, the network of European universities of which Scuola Normale Superiore and the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, Italy, are members.

"II EELISA Research-Based Learning (RBL) Symosium" focuses on the university's research-based learning method (a method that has been practiced for years at Scuola Normale and Sant'Anna School), through which notions are imparted to students by involving them in solving a research problem in their field. The RBL method enables students to engage directly with the real-life challenges inherent in research activity. In this approach, teachers/educators act more as facilitators or mentors rather than instructors. From this point of view, the Symposium (the first similar event was held in Istanbul last year) will include special sessions focusing on the experience and best practices implemented by EELISA member institutions by teachers and researchers from the various academic institutions.

The opening day will be in the Aula Magna of the Sant'Anna School on Wednesday 17 starting at 9 a.m.; the next day, at the same time, it will continue in the Sala Azzurra of the Scuola Normale and finally return to the Sant'Anna campus for the closing day. On the afternoons of Wednesday, May 17 and Thursday, May 18, a contest will also be held: some students from EELISA universities will compete by submitting a previously prepared scientific report on their own research topic, and a committee of professors will elect the one deemed best. This "Student Scientific Competition" aims to stimulate the skills needed in the world of research and establish common research interests and activities among EELISA partners.

EELISA (European Engineering Learning Innovation and Science Alliance) is an international network of universities and research institutes funded by the European Commission in which, in addition to Scuola Normale Superiore and the Sant'Anna School, eight other universities and research centers from France, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Romania, Hungary, and Switzerland (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, which coordinates the network, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen Nürnberg, Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, Polytecnhic University of Bucharest, Istanbul Technical University, Paris Sciences & Lettres, ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences). The main objective is to broaden the educational offerings to students with additional knowledge related to the research carried out in each community that is part of the network.
